It's the season of giving and some Newton County residents are trying to give back to their community in a big way.

Dozens of volunteers are preparing food baskets for the 21st annual Food Basket Brigade for residents for families in need.

The food baskets are going to families in Granby, Diamond, and Fairview for the holiday season. [cg :2 line\virginia mckenzie\volunteer]

"So many of them have said 'thank you so much, we need it this year,' or 'I didn't need it last year but I need it this year,'" says volunteer Virginia McKenzie.  "They are very appreciative and they are very needful."

On Saturday, more than 1100 families will receive food baskets at the Newton County Armory in Neosho.

Organizers of the event are still looking for volunteers to help at 6:45 Saturday morning at the armory.
