MSSU Film Society to Present French Masterwork

JOPLIN, MO.

As part of the 44th annual International Film Festival, Casque D'Or Is the 425th program in the continuing series.

The film will be shown at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 at Cornell Auditorium in Matthews Hall on the MSSU campus.

The movie is free and open to the public.

Jacques Becker's elegant masterwork is a glowingly nostalgic evocation of the Paris of the Impressionist era.  Set in the underworld at the turn of the century, this beautifully stylized film is based on the tragic love story of a famous gigolette, Marie, who has golden hair.

Casque D'Or is a haunting and evocative mood piece which recreates both the decorative charm of its period and a world of terror and violence.

Simone Signoret received the British Film Academy's equivalent of the "Oscar" for her superb performance in the part of Marie.
