As part of the 44th Annual International Film Festival, Mamma Roma (Italy, 1962) will be shown at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 14 in Cornell Auditorium in Matthews Hall on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
The film is free and open to the public.
Momma Roma is perhaps the least known of features directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini but it is also likely to be one of his very best. Anna Magnani, in the title role, delivers a terrific performance as a former Roman prostitute who desperately wants a respectable life for her teenage son.
J. Hoberman of Village Voice wrote: "It's instant over-the-top. Thirty seconds into the movie, Mount Magnani is sputtering, singing, screaming and otherwise spewing lava. As a movie actress Magnani stands alone."
The film is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Harrisan Kash at (417) 625-9614.
