Race fans will see changes to the auto racing program on the Missouri State Fairgrounds during 2005. Mel Willard, Missouri State Fair Director, said, "The Fair had been contacted, late in 2004, from two different promoters indicating an interest in continuing some form of weekly racing. However, no official proposals were submitted."
Due to the lack of proposals for a weekly race program Fair officials will be contracting with various promoters to produce special races throughout the spring and summer race season.
Events that are certain to be featured on the Missouri State Fair historic ½ mile Track include: The Dream Factory Tractor Pull on June 4, a World of Outlaws sprint car race on June 22, and the AMA Flat-track motorcycle race on August 27.
Officials also plan to feature the traditional Missouri State Fair auto races on August 21, the last Sunday of the Fair.
Mel Willard, Fair Director, said, "We have a great track and we know we will have people interested in utilizing this facility. We look forward to working with a variety of race promoters and know that race fans will value the opportunity to see some great racing."
The Missouri State Fair will announce additional racing events as they are contracted. For more information on events scheduled on the Fairgrounds visit www.mostatefair.com or call 800-422-FAIR (3247) or 660-827-8150.
